Veronica Rivas Mittino

Senior Associate
  • Veronica Rivas Mittino is a Senior Associate at Slater Slater Schulman, representing adult and child survivors of sexual abuse.

Driven by justice, Veronica ensures the victims she serves feel safe and supported throughout the legal process.  Operating from a trauma-informed and person-centered approach, Veronica refuses to judge or push survivors during litigation.  Disclosure is a process, and Veronica builds the trust, confidence, and open communication necessary to endure the legal process from start to finish; she makes sure to provide survivors with the strength they need and the respect they deserve at their most vulnerable moments.

Prior to joining Slater Slater Schulman, Veronica was a Deputy District Attorney at the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.  As a prosecutor assigned exclusively to the Sexual Assault & Child Abuse Unit, Veronica prosecuted complex, multi-victim sexual assault and child abuse cases.  Her tenacious trial advocacy resulted in guilty verdicts in every felony jury trial in her career, including all sexual assault and child abuse trials, and guilty as-charged verdicts in all but two sexual assault and child abuse cases.

Prior to the Sexual Assault & Child Abuse Unit, Veronica prosecuted Domestic Violence and serious and violent felony cases.  Veronica also clerked at the U.S. Department of Justice, United States Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California during her final year in law school, assisting federal prosecutors with RICO and VICAR murder cases.

Since 2020, Veronica has served on the board of the Federal Bar Association Inland Empire Chapter and most recently served as the Chapter’s President.  In this capacity, she has assisted with the development of MCLE events, oversaw the 2023 annual Judges Night Event honoring the Judges of the Central District of California, served on the nominating committee for the Ninth Circuit Lawyer Representatives, and served on the Capitol Hill Day committee meeting with Congressional House and Senate offices to advocate for legislative initiatives impacting the administration of justice and federal courts.

Additionally, Veronica served as a Director on the Riverside County Deputy District Attorney Association (RCDDAA) board from 2021–2023 and coordinated the annual RCDDAA Blood Drive benefiting cancer and critically ill patients. She has spoken at various events and colleges, including as a panelist speaker at the Court and Legal Profession Symposium presented by the Administrative of Justice Program at Norco College in 2019, the Inaugural Latina Leaders Actualizing Agency Conference at Cal State San Bernardino in 2021, the University of La Verne College of Law Criminal Law Society’s Symposium in 2022, and the 2023 Inland Empire Federal Bar Association Judges Night Event.

Veronica received her B.A. in Legal Studies and Organizational Leadership from Brandman University.  She obtained her J.D. from the University of La Verne College of Law, where she received several awards for outstanding academic achievement, including the CALI Award for Excellence in 2016 for Trial Advocacy and in 2017 for Advanced Appellate Advocacy, Advanced Contracts, and Transactional Workshop. Veronica also placed third in the nation at the 29th Annual National Moot Court Criminal Procedure Tournament at USD School of Law.  Veronica joined Slater Slater Schulman in January 2024 and is licensed to practice in California state courts.
