Senior Investigator
Brooke Slater is the Senior Investigator at Slater Slater Schulman and a tenacious advocate for survivors of sexual trauma. Dedicating her life’s work to attaining justice, acknowledgement, and validation for all survivors of sexual abuse, Brooke is a highly regarded leader in the field of investigative law with a tireless commitment to helping her clients achieve their legal goals.
Brooke possesses an affable demeanor with clients that allows her to create an environment empowering patience, understanding, and compassion. Working primarily with survivors of sexual abuse, Brooke has seen first-hand the trauma clients face when reliving these horrific accounts. She gives every single client her focused attention and utmost respect during these trying times. Every individual is treated with genuine warmth and honesty.
In 2020, Brooke became a Board-Certified Human Trafficking Investigator (CHTI), part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s National Initiative for Cybersecurity Careers and Studies. This certification is awarded to “Human Trafficking practitioners who have proven expertise and proficiency in human trafficking investigation management, intelligence gathering, digital evidence collection, interview, and interrogation, developing reports and testimony to validate findings.”
Brooke’s commitment to her clients’ success is evident in her vigorous work ethic throughout each investigation. She is fiercely determined to ensure that justice prevails for the survivors whom she advocates for, leaving no stone unturned in her meticulous examination of facts and events. In addition to her role at the firm, Brooke is an active member of Guardian Group, an organization with a mission to prevent and disrupt sex trafficking in the United States.
Prior to joining the firm, Brooke was a distinguished advocate who co-founded Bruised Not Broken, a nonprofit dedicated to rescuing homeless, abandoned, and abused pit bulls in NYC. Through this successful organization, founded with her husband Dave, Brooke helped rescue thousands of dogs in need by securing foster placements and forever homes. Bruised Not Broken gained international traction with a feature in a National Geographic book and a double feature on Fox News. Additionally, Brooke and Dave were selected by NY1 News as “New Yorkers of the Week” in 2011 for their extraordinary work.
Brooke graduated with a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice & Criminology from the University of Maryland, where she was a recipient of the Presidential Scholarship and chosen for the esteemed Scholars Program for Public Leadership. In 2003, Brooke proudly interned for the United States Congress on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. She went on to receive her Master’s in Childhood Education from Hunter College in NYC and joined her family’s firm as an Investigator at Slater Slater Schulman in December 2019.
