As of Monday, November 16, 2020, the window to file sexual abuse claims against the Boys Scouts of America officially closed. According to The New York Times, an estimated 92,700 survivors bravely came forward to report instances of sexual abuse and misconduct within the organization, most of whom were children when the sexual abuse occurred. These survivors are now seeking monetary damages to compensate them for years/decades of trauma-related pain and suffering inflicted by individuals who were meant to protect them.
The Boy Scouts of America first came under fire for allegations of widespread sexual abuse back in 2007 after six men came forward to report sexual abuse by a scoutmaster. By February 2020, the organization had received a surge of claims so overwhelming that they filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
