Perry J. Pelaez is a Managing Attorney for Slater Slater Schulman in Raleigh, North Carolina. Perry brings over 20 years of valuable litigation experience to the firm, focusing primarily on matters pertaining to mass torts, class action litigation, personal injury, and complex litigation.

Before joining the firm, Perry served with the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office, Department of Justice for almost 12 years. In this role, he represented the Department of Revenue in complex tax litigation in both state and federal court and at the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH). While previously in private practice, Perry gained three years of experience with personal injury claims with a prominent law firm in Durham–securing settlements in excess of $22 million through direct negotiation with insurance companies and legal counsel – and six years of experience as a Litigation Attorney focusing on complex litigation and insurance defense.
With decades of legal experience, Perry’s career encompasses all aspects of civil litigation (state and federal) at both the trial and appellate levels. Perry has a proven track record of success, securing multiple multi-million-dollar results in complex cases. He’s tried hundreds of bench trials and multiple jury trials and argued cases at both the North Carolina Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals. As a notable accomplishment, Perry secured a $25.6 million OAH Final Decision that disallowed renewable energy tax credits purchased through abusive tax avoidance transactions in a highly contentious case.
Perry graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Maryland before receiving his J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law. He’s licensed to practice in all North Carolina state courts, the United States District Court for the Eastern and Middle Districts of North Carolina, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Perry joined the firm in November 2022, officially transitioning his career from the public sector to the private sector to serve clients who have suffered traumatic and life-changing injuries.
